ただごと【徒事･只事･唯事】

a trifling thing; a trifle; a trivial matter; something ordinary.

●ただごとでない ⇒ただならぬ.

●それはただごとではない. It is no trivial matter [joke, trifle].

・ただごとではないと思った. I thought it was something serious [a matter of grave concern].

・ただごとならぬ雰囲気であった. The atmosphere was charged [tense, quite different from usual].
